Exhibitions are one of many methods in promoting a business where the intent is typically to increase facetime with potential consumers and further establish a brand in the market. Put a little extra effort into the planning stages for these types of events by following the suggested tips below and reap the rewards!

Strategise before you pull the trigger.

What is the goal of this exhibition? Is the intent to further establish company branding, increase consumer facetime, or improve overall business profits? It could also be a little mix of all three. Are you releasing a new product? Maybe this exhibit will contribute to market surveys? Or perhaps it is an opportunity to dole out promotional offers to drive traffic to the business.

Bottom line, determining the purpose for attending this exhibition will assist in tailoring the marketing framework to that respective intent.
Determine the design approach.

Stands. Widgets, gadgets, and gizmos. Audience interactions. Giveaway opportunities. Marketing brochures. All of these ideas are individually lucrative, but when each approach is coupled with another the opportunity for success is amplified substantially.

Consider each of the options for promoting the business at the exhibition. However, it is wise to review the event overview information prior to completing the design ensuring that all necessary equipment is available and allowed for use at the event. Also, when designing visual displays, keep the message brief and to the point. Too many words complicate the design and the intent of the presentation.

Show me the money!

Obviously if a company could give away free cars like Oprah Winfrey then everyone in the world would probably be driving new Mercedes on the streets. Unfortunately, reality is a harsh factor and forces businesses to become a little more creative…on a budget.

Lay out design considerations prior to producing material and determine the upfront costs implicit to preparing for this event with respect to your design approach. Additionally, consider the backend financial opportunity as well. It may be worth the initial cost to increase consumer traffic and drive profits higher.

Publicise. Broadcast. Announce. Expose.

What is the point of preparing for an event, smiling all evening long, and handing out a few marketing materials if the event only brings in a few individuals? Obviously the event planners will advertise and promote the occasion to some extent but this shouldn’t limit you to just their strategy.

Reach out on your company’s social media channels, print and post flyers, and tell every joe blow you come in contact with about this exhibition. Increasing the foot traffic for the event is inherently mutually beneficial for both the organisers and your company.

Distribute free recognisable and memorable material

On the day of the event, it is always advisable to be personable and relatable to the audience members. However, is it guaranteed they are going to remember your company and products? No. Not the slightest.

Be smarter than the average company and ensure marketing material is passed out on the day of the event. As an example, rocket fuel companies have been known to imprint their logo onto solid fuel material used for space shuttles. It goes without saying, but be as creative as possible…and keep flammables away from combustibles.

Even in today’s digitally-focused world, print advertisements still have the ability to capture an audience and effectively communicate a powerful message. Whether they are massive billboard designs or scaled-down magazine advertisements, these ingenious campaigns provide inspiration for all print designers. Although helpful software can boost a designer’s potential, a powerful concept makes the difference when it comes to print adverts.

1. Rolling Stone

This striking, yet simple, print ad was created by DLV BBDO. The sleek execution of this design makes this ad stand out for the Rolling Stone magazine. With one smart tag line, “We are made of rock,” the design highlights the brand’s product and attitudes in an innovative way. The use of a signature style font helps to emphasize the music celebrity feel.

2. Volkswagen

When Volkswagen unveiled its Amarok product line, it hired an ad agency to highlight the vehicle’s ability to get 620 miles or more of driving with only one tank of fuel. Below, the ad agency, created a campaign that invited consumers to “turn on

[their] adventure.” To illustrate this unique concept, Below developed this creative design using the key grooves to form a safari image.

3. Duracell

When it comes to advertising concepts, Duracell’s “some toys never die” campaign takes the cake. The idea behind these print ads and designs doesn’t make sense at first thought, but somehow these just work…and work well! This concept, created by Grey, stands out and catches the eye of consumers. The print ads capitalize on a fresh and creative idea for promoting long-life batteries.

4. Powers Whiskey

As the second largest whiskey brand in the whiskey-obsessed nation of Ireland, Powers Whiskey can be proud of this print campaign. Taylor James Creative Production Studio partnered with professional photographer Andy Glass to create the inspiring elements in this design. The team combined Glass’s beautiful images with the whiskey glasses using some retouching and created an amazing, photorealistic design that highlights the honey notes, barley character and earthy tones found in Powers Whiskey.

5. B&B Hotels

Although most bed and breakfast advertisements are dull and unoriginal, Publicis, a creative agency in Germany, created something far from boring with its design for B&B Hotels. While the design takes a moment to sink in, its quirky style truly engages consumers once it does. This campaign also features a cheese sandwich, sausages and toast, but this one wins for its ridiculously creative egg yolk pillow.

6. Pilot

A Barcelona advertising agency called GREY went simple with this beautiful design for Pilot’s Water Resistant print campaign. The bright colours used in this nostalgic design draw consumers in and the text finishes the job. This text is especially identifiable with parents and instantly hits an emotional chord, but also speaks to an array of other consumers. This print advertisement is the perfect example of solid execution and strong purpose.

Good designers can help any product stand out in print advertisement. While internet marketing and social media continue to be important marketing tools, you should never underestimate the power of an excellent print advertisement!

The Christmas period usually means a hefty commercial frenzy from people all over the globe. Presents and celebrations with family, friends and colleagues become the main item on the agenda.

However, despite this burgeoning demand, it can still be tricky to drive sales up during the holidays. After all, competition will be at an all-time high and if you don’t make the effort to stand out, the New Year will not start in the way you had intended.

One of the leading graphic design agencies in Bristol

Don’t worry; we’re not here to spoil the party. As one of the leading graphic design agencies in Bristol, we’ve had ample experience in helping local businesses inject a bit of quality and buzz around their product during the holiday season. We’ve put together several ways in which you can make a difference to your campaigns by using effective Christmas campaigns built on solid design.

	Christmas Competitions

People are constantly being sent promotions, discounts and pushy sales emails and during the holidays this practice goes into absolute overdrive. Why not buck that trend and run a competition instead?

The trick in getting people interested is sending an attractive themed email that gets the message across quickly and effectively. Let people know that they have a chance of getting their hands on a fantastic prize at no cost and they’ll beg to enter. Add some juicy graphics that will attract opt-ins, as people will hit the ‘delete’ button with no mercy when emails are bland and boring.

The prize should be something that people would actually want, but that won’t necessarily set you back hundreds of pounds (depending on how generous you’re feeling!). Now what follows is what makes this strategy a killer one-two punch to drive up your sales next year.

What you want to do is combine your prize with a free trial of one of your products or services. If you sell a monthly gardening service, for example, offer a 1-year contract with the first month 100% free. The winner can then opt out after one month, but if you offer them what they’re looking for chances are they’ll stick around.

Lastly, have people enter the contests simply by sharing or ‘liking’ your content on Facebook. That way you get some value social media traction as part of the package!

	Themed Infographics

We’ve discussed the importance of visual content in one of our previous blog entries (Cutting Edge Methods to Supercharge Your Social Media Marketing) and Christmas is a perfect time to invest in the commission of a holiday infographic.

But how do you tie in Christmas with what your business is selling? Think outside the box and sprinkle a little bit of creativity and the ideas will come flooding in (or talk to us, we have plenty of experience!). The key is to keep the concept tightly knit and centred on the holidays.

For example, if your company sells unique gifts and trinkets, why not send out an infographic that highlights your top ‘alternative’ gifts for your boyfriend or girlfriend? Most people struggle to find something that stands out from the high street, so something like that would definitely generate a little buzz on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

Remember that your infographic should be attractive and should really pop out the screen. Use iconic figures wrapped around your message and people will be more receptive.

Spread the Christmas Cheer to Your Website

When the Christmas seasons rolls around, don’t limit your decorations to your office desk. Instead, give your website a Christmas-jumper style makeover. Add joyous amounts of green and red to your colour scheme and sprinkle a little bit of holiday design throughout your site. By using the right design elements, people will instantly know that they can take advantage of holiday deals on your website.

If you sell products, turn your site into a fully-fledged solution for the struggling Christmas shopper. Personalised products or handpicked selections work particularly well, as people will often be exasperated with choice and will want to have the solution handed to them on a plate. Funnel shoppers to their desired sections by using a custom landing page built exclusively for the holidays. These convert incredibly well compared to small ads forced into the usual home page.

If your business doesn’t run a traditional physical product e-commerce site, this advice still applies to you. People that are shopping during the Christmas period are always on the lookout for deals, so even if you can’t market your product in a Christmas package, you can still run special deals and promotions that are only valid during the holidays.

Everyone has a weakness. It could be Jelly Babies. It could be chocolate ice cream. It could be kinky screensavers. Or maybe a toy train set.

The World of Advertising

It’s exactly the same in the world of business. It could be opportunities to save, to learn, to do things faster, easier, to get one up on the competition. Or the most common of all, to make more money.

There is always, always a motivating factor. A point at which seduction is not only possible but pleasurable. People want to be seduced. And every day, we exploit that desire with great precision.

There is nothing sinister or immoral in this. We are simply applying the techniques of the world’s second oldest profession.

Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it’s difficult, but ultimately the trigger is found and then gently, persuasively squeezed.

Of course, our target still has the option to resist. But it’s so much easier to succumb. And they do. They really do.
